DRESS HOOK

Unique ID: WILT-75A172

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete Early Post-Medieval (1500-1600) cast copper alloy openwork hooked tag of Read Class E, Type 5 (trefoil), missing the hooked end. It measures 16.47x19.26x1.98mm and weighs 1.6g.

The openwork plate is in the form of an openwork Hungerford knot with pellets on each cord terminal, which are joined by a bar to form a trapezoidal attachment loop. The largest loop is damaged where the hook would have extended.

Read suggests a probably 16th century date for this type of hooked tag. Cf.Read 2001 p.110, no.436.
