An early post-medieval silver hooked tag or dress-hook, elaborately cast composite flower with riveted central boss holding five double petals with smaller petals between and separate innermost petals with beaded outer edge onto back-plate. The outermost petals each have a single knop on the outside edge. The circular-sectioned hook and flat horizontal bar are soldered onto the reverse, 20x27mm. Weight 6.46g. It probably dates to the 16th century.
Notes:
This object is more than 300 years old and more than 10% silver, so is subject to the Treasure Act 1996. It was declared Treasure in September 2002 and Norwich Castle Museum hoped to acquire it, but withdrew subsequent to valuation. The object was therefore disclaimed and returned to the finder.
