Transitional palstave with trident decoration. Slim axehead with narrow waist beneath stop, sides expanding outwards towards the cutting edge 'crinolin' style. Small part of blade edge missing/ broken. Hafting end intact except for broken flange. Prominent stop. Much of raised-rib trident decoration obscured by corrosion/ encrustation. Almost identical to unfinished palstave from same findspot in all aspects except blade shape. Casting flashes smoothed but obvious. Length 170mm, cutting edge width 45mm, weighs 473g. Probably date to Penard phase (late MBA/ beg. LBA) c.1150-1300 BC.
