VESSEL

Unique ID: SF8397

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Published Find published

Curious pyramidal copper-alloy object which may be an unusual form of vessel leg. It is square in cross-section, tapering from 18 mm square at the top to 9 mm square at the base. The top has a flattened area suggesting that it may have been cast separately and soldered on to the vessel. At only 32.5 mm long, it is short for a vessel leg. As its proportions are reminiscent of a dish-support from a chafing dish, it may belong to the same date (15th to 16th century).
