BOW BROOCH

Unique ID: SF8558

Object type certainty: Certain

Copper alloy brooch fragment, Colchester derivative double pierced lug type. Upper bow and wings with spring fragment (chord loop) only. Wings have single groove at terminals. Flat backed bow with short flat sides and a convex face on which there are three longitudinal grooves. Width 22mm, surviving length 14mm. The rectangular bow with reeded decoration is most commonly found on the "Maxey-type bow and fantail" (Hattatt 1987, 90-91), a probably East Anglian type - without the lower bow it is not possible to be certain.
