Copper alloy disc brooch, Hattatt's "umbonate" group. Missing pin, damaged hinge lug and catchplate, some corrosion especially to side projections. The pin was hinged between two close set lugs. The central part is domed; a centre dot is ringed by two rows of enamelled triangles (10 in the inner, 12 in the outer row, blue enamel in the outer row, nothing surviving in the inner). A 4mm wide plain flat band around the domed area has eight side projections; that above the hinge is pierced, that over the catchplate is plain and the other six have a ring and dot motif - the dots may hold decayed enamel, the circles are much slighter and some show as a double line. Length on pin line 33mm, diameter excluding lugs 25mm, height excluding pin fittings 7.5mm. Hattatt no. 1574 which cites Hull's type 167C; Suffolk egs from Hacheston (pubn no 182) and Coddenham (CDD 017 182).
