BROOCH

Unique ID: SF7371

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Circular annular brooch frame made from gilded copper alloy. It is broken at the pin constriction, which is missing, and it is heavily worn on all except the interior surface. The broken ends have sprung apart a little, and its present diameter is 33 mm; the cross-section is nearly circular and c. 3 mm in diameter. Half of the frame seems never to have been decorated, but the other half has oblique spiral grooves giving a twisted effect. In the grooves is a double row of punched squares giving texture. Clearly a nice brooch when first made, the differential wear shows that it had a long life.
