TWEEZERS

Unique ID: SF7801

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Complete but bent pair of tweezers made from thin copper-alloy strip. Although they look unprepossessing - almost like a piece of modern copper-alloy ribbon - both the expanded loop and the ends inturned at a slight angle can be seen. The strip flares from 4 mm wide at the loop to 5 mm wide at the ends, and is decorated with a pair of very fine longitudinal grooves. The original unbent length must have been about 50 mm. Tweezers can be difficult to date, especially when they have little decoration; these might be Roman, or alternatively early-medieval.
