Copper alloy pendant seal matrix of a type usually dated to the late C13th or late C15th. In impression the design can be seen to consist of an eight-pointed star formed from two interwoven squares inside of which is a curled up animal, possibly a lion, with its head to the left. The exterior angles of the star contain single letters which read LCGETCCO. This is presumably intended to read LEGE TEGE, which is Latin for 'read and conceal'.

Notes:

A seal matrix showing a curled up lion inside a six-pointed star, apparently lacking any inscription, was found in Cobham and published in Arch Cant CVIII (1990), 291. Where a similar examples from Thetford is cited, which had LEVL AMVR in the interstices outside the star.
