BROOCH

Unique ID: HAMP3109

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Incomplete, cast copper-alloy plate brooch; zoomorphic. The flat body is narrow with a docked tail and a hind and fore leg represented. The neck, which is as wide as the body, is broken off close to the junction with the body and the head is missing. There is a square projection, which is broken, protruding from the back, just past the mid-way point. An integrally cast zig-zag shaped plate connects the fore and hind legs. Stamped circular motifs occur on the neck, legs and lower body and on the zig-zag feature (which may be intended to represent grass?). Single pierced hinge is 6.5mm long and has iron corrosion from missing pin. Deep catchplate, 6mm long, with end curled up and in. Long scratches on the upper surface. No parallels are known.
