CLOTHING FASTENING

Copper-alloy clothing fastener. Sub-rectangular loop attached to circular boss with lion's head motif in high relief. There is an integral circular attachment loop set at right angles to the boss. The outer edge of the loop and boss has engraved cable decoration. Traces of gilding. Probably a naval fastener - similar examples were recovered from the wreck of HMS Innocence and are on display at Portsmouth Historic Ships Yard.
