A triangular shaped cast copper alloy escutcheon from a vessel, possibly a bucket, 54mm in length and 42mm in width. It has an oval suspension loop which has considerable wear on it, this joins a triangular shaped thick tapering plate, the tip of which is missing due to an old break. On the front face there are two V-shaped notches at the top of this plate and a transverse groove where the suspension loop joins the main plate. This escutcheon is only concave, on its back face at the top, the rest of the plate is flat. It is most likely to be Roman in date as an almost identical escutcheon has been found in Buxhall, Suffolk and a similar, although more concave example has been discovered at Verulamium (Frere 1972, fig 41, no 142).
