Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon 10th to 11th century) cast copper alloy strap end, variation of Thomas Class E. The strap end tongue shaped with an openwork design and split end for attachment. The attachment end is formed of a plain and undecorated rectangle, with a rivet hole in each of the upper corners - the rivets are missing. The main tongue shaped area is symmetrical in its decoration, formed of two outer bars, an inner bar leaving two openwork areas. The central rectangular bar has an upwardly curving projection on each side approximately half way along its length, these projections do not join to the outer bars. Below this, projecting from each of the outer bars towards the central bar is an upwardly curving projection. The effect of these projections is that of a loose scroll pattern. The strap end terminates in an openwork circular loop. It is 40.25mm long, 24.93mm wide, 4.22mm thick and weighs 15.66 grams. Cf. NMS-CADA56 on this database
