Copper alloy Jetton. A French Dolphin Jetton, alluding to the province of Dauphine, south-western France. Issued 1373-1415 - identification from UK Detector Finds Database, verified by Rod Blunt, and kindly supplied by the finder. Obverse description: A toothed and finny dolphin left, with rounded object below jaws. Obverse inscription: +?IN[---]IOR[---]O - the latter part of legend being unfamiliar rather than illegible. Reverse description: Voided Cross Fleury with fleurs-de-lis at ends of arms; quatrefoil at centre, all within four arched tressure; further symbols - perhaps crested helms - are repeated between arms of cross. Further symbols including a wedge protrude between the outer curves of the tressure. Diameter: 22.70mm, Weight: 1.81gms
