A slightly damaged, but complete medieval copper-alloy sheet buckle plate. The broadly rectangular plate is formed of a bent sheet folded double with a recessed frame end. At this end is a circular perforation for the pin. On the upper surface the hole has extended, possibly through use, to the fold. The buckle frame and pin have been lost. There is a pair of rivet holes at the attachment end, with another pair towards the frame end. Two rivets with hammered down heads survive in situ, one at the frame end and one at the attachment end. Orange corrosion around the other rivet hole at the attachment end suggests that its rivet, possibly a replacement, was made of iron. The upper surface of the plate has a decorative border created in rockerarm. The object is now a variable mid-dark green patina, overlying a red-brown metal, with some patches of off-white corrosion product. For published medieval buckle plates see, for example, Egan and Pritchard (1991, 111; fig. 72).
