Silver finger ring with a red stone (red jasper or carnelian) intaglio. Roman. As the ring is more than 10% silver and over 300 years old, it has been reported as treasure under the stipulations of the 1996 Treasure Act. Treasure reference number 2010 T113.

Approximately 50% of the ring remains, with the back part of the frame missing. The ring has a diameter of 22mm. The front part of the ring is 8mm wide and holds an oval red stone, possibly carnelian, which is 6mm long and 4.5mm wide. the stone is raised 1.5mm above the frame of the ring and appears to have an oval or eliptical shape etched into it. The ring tapers down fron the front to 4mm at the breaks.The silver is tarnished.

British Museum report:

Fragment of Roman silver finger ring. Only the upper part of the hoop and the bezel survive. The hoop expands and swells to a flattened bezel set with a small ovoid orange-red carnelian intaglio, decorated with a crude design of a crescent moon and a poorly rendered six-pointed star.
