A cast copper alloy strap fitting; a decorative mount. In plan, the mount is lozenge shaped with moulded edges and is decorated on the upper surface with a large flower. The reverse is undecorated and has an integral incomplete spike which is square in section and tapers to a point. The upper surface of the mount red copper corrosion otherwise the surface has traces of a mid green patina which is slightly abraded. It measures 26.26mm long, 18.37mm wide and 7.42mm thick, weighing 3g. Strap fittings have been in use from the late Medieval to Post Medieval period. Egan (Egan, G. 2005 Material Culture in London in an Age of Transition MoLAS Monograph 19 p. 39) comments that when they were used as dress accessories and continued on horse harness straps into the 18th century and illustrates a similarly decorated example, No. 166. The style of decoration is also similar to that on dress hooks of the 17th century (Margeson, S. 1993 Norwich Households; Medieval and Post Medieval Finds from Norwich Survey Excavations 1971-78. East Anglian Archaeology Report No. 5) Nos. 71 to 75. The mount probably dates to the late 16th to 17th century.
