Copper-alloy side-plate from a candle-snuffer, used to trim candle wicks. The object is flat and rectangular, decorated on one face with two rectangular panels defined by linear grooves. Within each panel are two ring-and-dot motifs. At one end is an incomplete triangular terminal decorated with two deep circular depressions. The other end is also broken at a narrowed terminal. On the reverse are scars where the other sides of the candle-snuffer has broken away. All breaks are worn. Compare a more complete example at HAMP-917D56, and similar detached sides at SOM-409575 and IOW-D85E28, etc. These have all been dated to the late 17th and 18th centuries.
