Probable Late 10th. Anglo-Scandinavian, copper alloy, cast in two sections probable strap distributor or hunting dog leash swivel. Length 51.5mm, Width 18.5mm, Thickness 18.1mm, Diameter 18.1mm, Weight 25.8g. Formed from two sections with a 'ball and socket' joint to allow for 360 degree rotation, highly decorated swivel. Each of the two different sized, rectangular-section, sub-rectangular shaped terminal with a Romanesque moulded probable head decorations either side. The spherical central section has three small points, equally spaced out around the perimeter and a collar with fine transverse line decoration at the larger terminal only. Each terminal has twelve hand punched dots and twenty eight dots on the central section. Dark brown patina with just a few spots of surface corrosion. Ref.
