A large group of buttons and badges (about 100) of different dates and from British as well as foreign armies. The group comprises the following: British Royal Engineers cap badge, button and shoulder strap badge, c1914-1918. Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment, officer's cap badge. East Surrey Regiment badge, from 1881 (?World War I). Small button of the 70th (Surrey) regiment, Victorian up to 1881. A number of Victorian (and later?) naval buttons. Royal Artillery button, c1790-1802 and a small cap or collar badge. 15th Regimental button, c1820s. A button of the 12th Lancers - a British cavalry regiment raised in 1715 in Berkshire and later renamed the 12th Lancers. They fought at Waterloo and in the First World War were part of the 5th cavalry brigade. A button of the Welch (Welsh) Regiment. A button (generic issue) of the Royal Horse Artillery. A button of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, 1881-1970. 26 General Service buttons, 1902-52. Irish Three Irish vounteer buttons, c1914. French About ten French Grenadier buttons. One French artillery button (?post World War I). A button of the sapeurs-pompiers, part of the military engineering arm. French infantry button of the 62nd line regiment (?c1803-14). United States Three small uniform buttons. German and Prussian Fifteen Prussian buttons (incl. two blank) and a 'clip', three c1914, one large example c1916, when metal was scarce. The 'clip' also has a Prussian crown on it. Four Bavarian 'rampant lion' buttons, c1870-1914. German 11th regiment button. Button of the 6th company (World War One to Two). A button showing the Prussian Imperial Eagle in a shield, probably an NCO button (?World War One). One the back EXTRA FEIN D.

it is far from clear how this large group of buttons and badges came to be in this findspot. The date range argues against there being a hospital in the vicinity. It may be that uniforms were being cut up for use as fertiliser, although why French, German and American uniforms were among them is quite uncertain.
