BORER

Unique ID: SOM-B14D26

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Flint borer, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Secondary flake. There are a few large removals on the dorsal face. Long, stepped, semi-abrupt to abrupt retouch along the left edge of the dorsal face has caused this edge to curve inwards. Further stepped, abrupt retouch towards the distal end, also curving inwards, has created a protruding borer between these two sections. There is further very fine, short, low angle, parallel retouch along the right edge of the doral face, becoming much longer and more uneven towards the proximal end. The butt is wide and there is no visible bulb. The flint is mid grey in colour with a shiny patina. Cortex remains along the left side of the dorsal face and at the distal end. Length: 48.08mm, Width: 41.32mm, Thickness: 8.97mm, Weight: 16.7g
