Unique ID: CORN-AF6A85

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Incomplete cast copper alloy double-loop D-shaped spectacle buckle frame with moulded knops either end of the strap bar. The strap bar is narrowed and flush with the frame and the knops have raised lozenge-shaped mouldings. The strap bar is broken half way along its length so that the pin is now missing, along with one of the loops. The frame is semi-circular in section, with a flat base and convex upper face. The outer edges of the frame are slightly expanded, and the inner edges are bevelled. The remaining loop has three transverse incised lines on its outer edge, which the pin may have rested on. There are traces of black lacquer on all of the surfaces of the buckle frame. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar example on page 54, No.306, which is dated to c.1500-1650.
