BLADE

Unique ID: WMID-734B85

Object type certainty: Probably

Two flint blades, probably dating to the later Mesolithic or early Neolithic periods (6500 BC to 2900 BC). Both blades are sub-rectangular in plan, with a triangular cross section. There are multiple small flint facets down the external edges of each probable blade. One of the flint blade is broken. The ventral (lower) surfaces demonstrate a bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples. The dorsal (upper) surfaces demonstrate a central ridge. The broken flint blade demonstrates signs of retouching down the external edge. There is a small amount of cortex (outer rind) present on each blade, approximately 2% surface coverage, making them secondary flakes from the working of the flint nodule. Both blades exhibit post deposition damage in the form of uncontrolled flint facet scars, probably due to plough roll. Both blades together weigh 15.0 grams. 1. Measures 53.68mm length, 14.62mm width, 10.85mm thick and weighs 8.7 grams. 2. Measures 40.03mm length, 18.03mm width, 9.03mm thick and weighs 6.3 grams.
