BUCKLE

Unique ID: SOM-470606

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Medieval copper alloy buckle frame and plate. The frame has an offset, recessed strap bar and a tab on outside edge. The plate comprises a single piece of metal bent in two. It is short and has two attachment rivets, both remaining in situ. The frame is similar to Meols type 6 (Griffiths et al. 2007, p.84). However, unlike usual examples of this type it does not have grooves (or even a pin notch) on the tab. Despite this it is probably of a similar late-13th/early-14th century date (ibid. p.89). Length: 26.54mm, Width: 20.33mm, Thickness: 2.92mm, Weight: 3.0g
