A complete gold posy ring dated 1600. Treasure case no. 2010 T3. D-section hoop, misshapen and slightly damaged, engraved on the inside: 'I LIKE MY CHOYSE 1600'. A stop between each word is formed by an engraved star. Length: 24.7mm; width of hoop: 5.1mm; thickness of hoop: 1.3mm. Weight: 7.09g. The find contains a minimum of 10% gold and predates 1700. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age. In the British Museum Collection there are a number of variants of this inscription, all lower case rather than capitals, none of them dated. Two have identified maker's marks dating them to c.1600-1633 (1961,1202,50) and the 1730s (1961, 1202.45) - pers. comm. Judy Rudoe, Curator, The British Museum, 11/01/2010.
