A post-medieval copper alloy mount dating to the late 16th or 17th century. The mount is flat and tongue-shaped or U-shaped, with one curved end and one rectangular end. There are with two bent-over integral spikes or rivets on the reverse. The front is decorated with a complex but symmetrical relief design, possibly depicting two beasts in profile facing each other. Each beast has its mouth open with a long tongue projecting and the bodies are serpent-like with curling tails. Alternatively this pattern could be interpreted as a foliate or floral design. There is a thick layer of gilding remaining on the front and side surfaces. There is some damage to the right side and patches of gilding have been abraded. Dimensions: length: 20.86mm; width: 14.35mm; thickness: 2.60mm; weight: 2.58g. Compare DENO-6E1E63, IOW-79FA01, SF9028, etc.
