A copper alloy stirrup-strap mount of 11th century AD date of Williams Class A Type 1. It is pentagonal in shape with a flat base, point at the top and angles on both sides half way up. There are three pairs of lobed knops projecting from the sides, there is one knop half way between the base and side angles on each side, one on the side angles and one on each side near the top point. There is a short trapezoidal flange projecting out at 90 degrees from the back at the base. Above the flange are two open rivet holes with signs of wear. There is a further worn rivet hole at the apex. There are traces of the engraved decoration typical on these mounts although the details are unclear. It measures 44.4mm tall, 29.0mm wide, 2.5mm thick and weighs 13.1 grams. It has a light brown patina all over with slight green patches. For similar examples, see Williams, D. (1997) Late Saxon Stirrup-Strap Mounts (pp.26-34) and SUSS-5855E4.
