Silver sword chape made from thin silver sheet folded over along its length to form a sheath. Covered with incised scale decoration and regular punchmarks, roughly incised circlets and chevrons at tip. The rough decoration on both sides seems to be a characteristic of early modern chapes and echoes that on leather scabbards.
Probably 16th-17th Century.
Notes:
As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
