Object type certainty: Certain

A copper quadrans of the Roman Republican period. This coin is an anonymous issue, struck after 211 BC. For a parallel, see Crawford 1975: 159, no. 56/5. The coin is missing a small portion, is slightly corroded but relatively unworn. It measures 17.3mm in diameter, 1.5mm thick and weighs 2.13g.

Notes:

This is an anonymous issue which can only be dated to post-211 BC. It is, however, no later than the 2nd century BC. Copper-alloy coins of the Republican period are rare finds in Britain, the only other example on the PAS database being ESS-05C304. This coin was examined by M. H. Crawford, author of 'Roman Republican Coinage'.
