Cast blade of an iron axe, the socket end is missing from an old break and the blade is highly corroded. It is rectangular in cross section and triangular in plan. The general shape is of a small woodworking axe, these do not change a great deal between the Roman and Modern periods and features that can suggest more precise dating, such as the socket shape and the way the blade joins the socket, are missing in this example.
