A life-sized copper alloy finger from a votive hand. The finger is solid cast and life-like both in size and in depiction. The surviving portion of the finger includes the nail, the first digit and is broken just before the knuckle. The finger is oval in cross-section and tapers towards the nail. The break is fairly neat and well patinated suggesting that it may have been intentionally broken/cut off the original hand in antiquity. The finger is slightly angled at the first digit. The finger is possibly the little finger though missing the rest of the hand it is difficult to be certain. The finger has an even deep green patina and is in a good state of preservation. Votive representations of body parts in bronze are known from temple or shrine sites. A more complete hand from Sutton Cheney, Leicestershire is recorded on the PAS database as LEIC-7F4CC3.
