Part of a cast copper-alloy cruciform brooch of Early Medieval (c.6th century) date.
Only the headplate survives; this is square and has side wings. At the apex is an integrally cast knop with hemispherical top and triple collar below. The reverse of the knop is flat. The edges of the wings are complete. The side knops would have been attached via the spring mechanism. There is a worn break where the bow would have begun. The reverse has an incomplete sprung pin. Two corroded coils survive to the left of the integrally cast lug, none survive to the right. The internal chord is below. Length of headplate 28.68mm, width of headplate 19.89mm. Length of knop and collar 14.18mm. Thickness of headplate 2.14mm, thickness of brooch including knop 8.75mm. Weight 9.2g.
