TOKEN

Unique ID: SUSS-9B2295

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Half of a cast lead circular token. The token has a raised design of the initials [...].D one side and a central pellet with an X to one side on the other; both sides have a raised line border at the edge. It is 24.3mm in diameter, 14.1mm wide, 2.8mm thick and weighs 4.00 grams. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally, they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are thought to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850). The X on the reverse may be a number 10 in Roman numerals. The combination of initials and numerical values are usually found on hop tokens of the 18th and 19th century.
