Fired clay roof-tile. Three fragments. a) Pale orange oxidised fabric with rare inclusions of brick debris (up to 7mm in length). Hand-made, sanded on underside; slight curvature suggesting the piece derives from a ridge or hip tile. Length: 80mm, Max Width:71mm, Thickness: 20mm. b) Pale orange oxidised fabric with rare inclusions of brick debris (up to 6mm in length). Hand-made, sanded on underside; slight curvature suggesting the piece derives from a ridge or hip tile. Length: 67mm, Width: 47mm, Thickness17mm. c) Hard dull red fabric, reduced to grey on underside and through most of its thickness, with rare inclusions of flint (up to 5mm in length) and grog. Hand-made, sanded on underside. Length: 48mm, Width: 44mm, Thickness: 17-19mm. Fragments (a) and (b) appear likely to be Roman fabrics. Fragment (c), which shares various characteristics with them may be a more intensely fired fragment of the same material, or may alternatively be from a later tile of Medieval or Post-Medieval date. The finder's grid reference is given as SE 914 911, but the find-spot is described as 1 mile west of Ings Farm, Kirton in Lindsey. This would suggest the intended NGR to be SE 914 991.
