HARNESS FITTING

Unique ID: DUR-004998

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Cast copper alloy Roman decorative fitting, probably harness, of Taylor and Brailsford (1985) Type 3. It would have been lozenge shape in plan when complete. It is incomplete having missing the lower quarter. The two side quarters are taken up by the hollow circular domes which have a groove around their bases. The two domes are linked by a small rectangular section. The upper and lower quarters have a triangular perforation before a triangular domed section which is also hollow on the reverse. The lower of these has broken off.

It is comparable to an example illustrated in Taylor and Brailsford (1985, 264; no. 41).

Class: strap link
