Roman copper alloy Rivet spur, 53mm long, 35mm wide and 7mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 16.91grams. The object consists of an incomplete cruciform mount which curves downwards from its centre. It has three rectangular arms, with sub triangular sections, which terminate in domed circles with central holes. One is shorter than the two flanking it and opposite this, the 'arm' consists solely of two small circular protrusions. The centre of the object consists of a domed circle which has the remains of a large iron pointed 'spur' in its centre. The only decoration is at the end of each arm where two incised lines run parallel just above the circles. The object is very similar to two examples, one from Corbridge and one from Saverne in France, illustrated in Dixon, K and Southern, P. The Roman Cavalry.
