Complete medieval copper-alloy harness hook, consisting of a bar-mount above and a hook below. The bar-mount is 6.5 mm wide, semi-circular in cross-section, and has two integral rivets on the reverse. A slight ridge separates the bar-mount from the narrower hook. This is rounded in cross-section, a minimum of 2.5 mm wide, and terminates in a wider oval terminal. The hook bends forwards. There are patches of a thick grey surface on both bar-mount and hook; this looks more like the original surface of the copper alloy than a decayed white-metal coating. Total length 34 mm, maximum thickness 8.5 mm, 5.7g. 13th to 15th century.
Compare Read 2008, nos. 807 and 808 (dated too late, in the post-medieval period).
