The highly corroded head and upper bow from a large, broken cast copper-alloy Roman T-shape brooch dating to around the second half of the 1st century AD, into the 2nd century. The head has tubular wings, seemingly plain, but highly corroded and abraded at both tips. The ?hinged pin is now missing. The wings are below the bow, perpendicular to it. The bow broadly trapezoidal in cross-section, seemingly with moulded longitudinal ridges on its upper surface. The bow tapers from a width of c. 11mm at the head to only 4.7mm at the break. Already at the broken point the bow has arched round such that it is level with the base of the wings. The whole is highly corroded with a variable green corrosion product where visible below a brown encrustation.
