UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT

Unique ID: IOW-589A41

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

An unidentified gold object of Unknown date. The object consists of one circular and one sub-circular free-running rings linked together. Both rings are hollow. The larger ring has an external diameter of 16.5mm and an internal diameter of 7.2mm. It is 4.1mm in width. This ring has been made in two equal sized parts from sheet gold and have been soldered together circumferentially (a seam is just visible on the inner and outer faces). The smaller ring has an outer diameter of 7.3mm and internal diameter of 4.6mm with a width of 3.3mm. It is assumed that this ring has been manufactured in the same manner as the larger ring. However, no soldered seams are visible. This smaller ring is truncated and has a flat surface to which a piece of circular-section gold wire has been soldered. The curving wire has a diameter of 0.7mm and if straightened would have a length of 27.6mm. The larger ring is dented in two places and one of the dents has opened up the soldered seam on the outer face. The smaller ring is also dented along one side. Weight: 1.72g.
