Late Medieval/ Early Post-Medieval copper alloy sword or dagger openwork chape, complete with separate sheet copper alloy backplate. It measures 34.68x23.94x7.20mm and (filled with mud) weighs 7.02g. The chape is U-shaped with an openwork heart at its centre. Its open end is cut in a semi-circle and flanked by a curving rib. The sheet backplate is 0.34mm thick. Late 15th/ 16th century in date.
