Treasure Case 2009 T618 Post Medieval Dress fitting
Date of Discovery: 8th October 2009
Circumstances of discovery: Whilst searching with a metal detector.
Description: In complete silver-gilt dress fitting. The main body is rectangular, with a raised rectangular panel containing three rows of circles. The outer two rows are comprised of three sunken circles, and the central row to raised circular knops. There is a flat border around the raised panel, with a circular knop at the mid-point of each longer edge. There is an incomplete projection on one short edge, whilst the opposing edge has a break completely across the artefact, making it impossible to determine whether this is the hook or the eye element of a two piece dress fastener. In its current condition, it measures 9.05mm long, 10.27mm wide, 3.06mm thick and weighs 0.70 grams.
Date: Post Medieval, 16th century
Disposition: Disclaimed
The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
