A fourth century copper alloy Roman AE3, GLORIA EXERCITVS type, of Constantine II or Constantius II, c. 330-5. The obverse has the laureate, draped and cuirassed bust facing right with the reverse showing two soldiers flanking two standards. The letters in exergue are hard to make out. The coin is in very poor condition with much of the surface now eroding and flaking off, leaving a mottled pale green and brown patina. Underneath, the coin is probably relatively unworn.
Notes:
Rod Trevaskus thinks there might be SMK in the exergue; Sam Moorhead thinks there might be a gamma at the end. Either reading suggests an Eastern Mint coin, but even this is speculative.
