BUCKLE

A cast copper alloy double looped rectangular buckle frame with pointed ends. The pin is missing. The strap bar is narrowed but not recessed and terminates with lobed protrusions on either end. The loops are sub-rectangular, widening slightly towards the outer edges which are expanding outwards into triangles. It has a flat back and front with a bevelled outer edge and possible traces of tinning. The buckle is 42.0mm in length, 22.0mm wide and 2.4mm thick. It weighs 5.46 gms. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar buckle (page 82, No.513) which he dates to c.1620-1680 AD.
