An incomplete cast copper alloy disc brooch of Early Anglo-Saxon date, AD 450 - AD 550. The rear of the brooch is flat and undecorated, and has a broken double perforated lug to take a pin (the pin is missing) and a long incomplete catchplate. A deposit of iron corrosion at one side of the lug is the remains of the iron spring and axis bar. The double lug is 4mm in length and the catch-plate 10mm in length. There are faint traces of incising and possibly of tinning. The brooch is 37mm in diameter, 2mm thick and weighs 18.19g.

Notes:

A findspot in Cumbria is very unusual for an early Anglo-Saxon brooch.
