A complete lead or lead alloy unifaced token of the Late Medieval to Post Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1400 - c. AD 1800.
The token is broadly oval in shape. The obverse depicts a probable letter either an N or a Z surrounded by a raised circular border (Powell Type: 2 or 24)The obverse is slightly convex. The reverse is undecorated.
The token has a diameter of 19.8 mm and is 3.6 mm thick. It weighs 7.8 g.
The token is a mid grey to brown in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil has resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
Lead tokens are a frequently occurring find, with a variety of different designs. Tokens like this, were used as tallies or as replacement low denomination coinage during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods.
