A cast copper alloy spherical bell with a ferrous striker. The bell is 46.5mm long and has a diameter of 37.1mm, it weighs 50.98g. It has a square suspension loop at the top, with a rounded hole through it. The bell has a thickened median rib. There are two circular sound holes in the upper half. There are two sound holes joined by a slit in the lower half. The striker is still functional. The bell is decorated with eight radial petal motifs on the upper half and eight on the lower half. It has a smooth grey patina, with occasional small pits of green corrosion. It seems to have a high lead content. There is the maker’s mark of a founder’s hammer on the base. The bell is post medieval and probably dates from the sixteenth to mid 17th century. See Bailey 1999, Detector Finds.
