A zoomorphic, copper alloy pouring spout in the form of a lion, dating from c. 1400-1500. The spout was attached to the main vessel at the back legs of the lion. The legs are divided by a deep groove; one of them has broken off and is missing. The front legs of the lion are merged together to form a flat plate in the form of a shield with one rounded and one square end. The square end of the shield has a raised ridge with three short, transverse grooves defining the paws of the front legs. The mane and head of the lion are defined by shallowly engraved grooves. The pouring spout issues from the mouth of the lion and has a small piece broken from the rim. The attachment to the upper rim of the vessel remains as a flat protrusion behind the head of the animal. There is a short stump of tail remaining, which was also part of the attachment to the main vessel. One side of the mane is corroded and there are holes through the edge of the spout. This spout is similar to one found at Penrhos, near Raglan, Gwent. See Finds Research Group, Datasheet 7, p. 5, No. 8b. It is 95.7mm long, 41.3mm wide, and 18.4mm thick. It weighs 103.47gm.
