Unique ID: BH-703626

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A copper-alloy hooked tag of probable early post-Medieval date. Read illustrates several similar hooked tags, which he classifies as Class C, Type 3 (2008: 54-55). The body of the artefact roughly takes the form of a half cylinder, tapering slightly from top to bottom. The upper surface has a moulded pattern of grooves and ridges, the main element being a panel of lozenges. This is bordered by two vertical grooves and there are two transverse grooves at the top. The back plate has been attached; it is plain and has a broken bar attachment above a sub-circular aperture. The hook is of semi-circular section, backward-facing and tapers to a blunt end. It appears to have been cast integrally with the upper part of the body. The artefact is heavily corroded. It measures 31mm long, 11.9mm wide and 7.1mm thick. The weight is 5.12g.
