UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT

Unique ID: IOW-F1FAF3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A cast copper alloy unidentified object of probable post-Medieval date (1500-1800). The implement is long and slender and has incomplete elements at each end. The shaft has a length of 105.5mm and is sub-oval in cross-section and one face probably the back, is almost flat. At one end there are two small parallel collars beyond which are the remains of either a suspension loop or two-pronged fork. At the opposite end a spatula like feature appears to have been soldered into a slot at the end of the shaft. This feature is incomplete around the edges and is flat rather than being spoon-like. The object was found in a mobile sand and shingle context in the inter-tidal zone and is heavily corroded and pitted. Traces of a shiny mid-green patina are present. 136.6 x 10.7 x 3.8mm. Weight: 9.89g.
