A polished flint axe. It has a lenticular cross section with slightly rounded edges. The cutting edge has suffered some post-depositional damage and is gently convex and slightly flattened. The axe has been polished over parts of the surface, but several sharp-edged flaking scars remain particularly towards the lateral margins. There is some probable re-working along the tapered butt. This is quite crude and the edges have been pecked and blunted. It has been made using a very pale grey flint which has patinated to an off-white with lines of orange iron staining Date: Neolithic - 3500 to 2100 BC Dimensions: 130 mm x 85 mm x 63 mm Weight: 182 g
